Ideas for final project
Sssooo I was thinking about maybe doing a web site for a friend of mine named Georgeo who owns his own company, (he does house construction, but I have to get way more info on that), ooorrrr a web site for St. Mary’s English as a Second Language Program who’s mission is to help non-native speakers learn English to help them assimilate in our community. Those are my ideas for right now. I plan on talking to Georgeo this week to see in detail what he is looking for because his company web site is my first choice.

Ch2, 3, 4
Hello. It takes me forever to do the chapters in the book. kinda makes me feel dumb. haha. One problem when doing chapter 4, I was trying to do the pipe symbol (shift+/) is that right? It wasn’t working.

Dreamweaver Ch 1
That chapter was pretty similar to the 1st chapter in the last book so it wasn’t that painful. I like the way the book explains things better then the online reading. It was easier to understand.

Article “FTP: For the People”
Link to the article : http://www.webmonkey.com/02/36/index4a.html
Ok, so, I’m not sure if this is the same article that I read the last time I tried to take this class (I had to drop it for a few reasons) but I remember saying that I felt like I was reading a different language, when reading the stuff for this class. Well, I still do. I get some of the reading but keeping focused on what I am reading is a pain in the _____.
Anyway, on to the book reading, which I am expecting to go much like the article did for me.

http://bokardo.com/archives/five-principles-to-design-by/
When reading the part about “Design is not Art”, I immediately thought back to the websites that were on “The 10 Worst Web Sites to Navigate in 2006″ (http://www.webpagesthatsuck.com/10-worst-mystery-meat-navigation-sites-featured-on-web-pages-that-suck-in-2006.html). It seemed that some of those designers forgot that everyday people would be using their web site to obtain information quickly. This author talks about design being for use, thus good design needs to work well. And that you should make sure you don’t get too carried away tiring to be artistic. I also like the way of thinking, that a good designer knows what to keep and what to get rid of, always keeping in mind that the main goal is to make the users experience a smooth and simple one.

I like this article because I get stuck and frustrated with things all the time, so advice when it comes to this is needed. The author makes a good point when he says that sometimes, when your working on a header with no body it’s like, “adjusting a tie in front of the mirror, but being completely nude.” I can also really relate to the part that talks about stepping away from a project that you think looks like crap and then coming back to it and thinking it looks awesome. Sometimes when your staring at something for hours and are frustrated with it, it’s going to look like crap to you because you’re in a bad state of mind. But if you come back to it refreshed, you can look at it with more constructive eyes.
